An historical novel set in the American Southwest
and Arizona between 1883 and the 1950s, based on the famous abduction
of a young boy, Charley McComas, by an Apache raiding party following
the massacre of his parents on the Lordsburg Road in New Mexico.
Charley, it seems, has survived the kidnapping to participate in some
of the major events of his time, including General Crook's attack on
Geronimo's rancheria in the Sierra Madre, the killing of
Texas lawman George Scarborough, Pancho Villa's raid on Columbus,
N.M., and the explosion of the Fat Man bomb at the Trinity Site in
1945....
